LJ Fail 2011
I think we need to start having titles for the different episodes of LJ fail, otherwise how can we keep track?

Anyway, HI!

So the reason for this post is to say that from now on, we will be posting fic updates on the epic of DOOOOM (aka TTOMT) over at dreamwidth in addition to LJ. I'm also working on getting my lj imported over there (I imported once when I started the dw account but it's been a while) so the whole thing will be over there as soon as that happens.

One of these days, I'll get around to putting it up on AO3 as well.

But for now, here's a link to my dw account (cunningly named "skyblue_reverie"):

Oh, btw, I have one dreamwidth invite code, so if you'd like it, it'll go to the first person who comments here and asks for it.

But, but... my LJ is the home of "fair" and "balanced" reporting, so nothing I say could possibly be inaccurate! *sticks fingers in ears* LA LA LA LA I CAN'T HEAR YOUUUU.

I don't really know much about computer security, although that's my dad's field so I'll have to ask him, so idk if lj could have done more to be prepared or to recover, but anyway, even if it wasn't their fault at all, I'll be x-posting from now on to increase the chances that people will be able to view & comment. :)

A backup plan for those times when LJ's under attack is a good plan. We're considering it over at jim_and_bones as well. We're not leaving LJ because that's exactly what those launching the DDoS want (LJ is the largest online presence in Russia and has bloggers that are openly critical of the government, so I expect that these attacks will continue up to the elections). I figured we have to fight the good fight and not leave.

Yeah, I'm not leaving LJ either. I have too much invested here to leave. Just gonna double-post. Backup plans are good. :)

*hugs back*

DDoS attacks are notoriously difficult to protect yourself from. They've brought down government webpages in the past too.

DDoS for dummies (such as me)

The reason for these attacks against LJ even serve to make LJ look noble. Russian political bloggers are using LJ as a platform to tell the people about government oppression and corruption, and since LJ aren't just succumbing to pressure and deleting their journals, they've made themselves a target. For once, LJ is fighting the good fight. :)

Ah, thanks for the link & the background info. I haven't been on LJ much except to post fic, so I haven't been reading about the reasons behind the latest problems. Good to hear LJ is doing the right thing for once. ;)
