RIP, Pink Laptop
So my beautiful pink Sony Vaio has finally reached the end of its lifespan. I have backed up all of my files from it - documents and pictures and so on. But I use Outlook for email, and I have not yet been able to import my Outlook files, which means all my emails and my address book and so forth are gone.

So, if I was in the middle of an email conversation with you (like you, kamiyo! and you, wunnerwmn!) I no longer have your email so please shoot me a line.

The upside is that I have a new laptop - a Toshiba Portege. The laptop before my pink Vaio was a Toshiba, and it was always a great computer. After five years I replaced it because it was obsolete (and weighed a metric ton), not because it no longer worked. So I'm hoping my new Toshiba will be equally reliable. It's also much lighter than my Vaio, and has better features for a lower price, so bonus!

Hope you are all well. <333

Noooooooooooooooooo I hate web-based mail. I use gmail for work and I loathe and despise it. When they make a web-based program that is as feature-rich and easy to use and as reliable as Outlook (i.e. no "Google is temporarily unavailable, we're so sorry about that!"), I will consider it. As it is, I love my Outlook, and as soon as I can import my settings, I'll be good to go. :p

Ah, well.

They do eventually end. (I really need to replace my Macbook, which is something like five years old, but I can't afford another Mac and I'm reluctant to go back to PCs.)

I wonder what we'd converse about if we were conversing over email? ;)

(btw, if you want to add it to your book it's yeomanjanicerand at gmail dot com)

You definitely pay a premium for Mac. Me, I love P.C.s. My mom worked for Apple for many years so I used to be a total Mac loyalist, but once I switched to P.C. I never looked back. Different strokes, though!

If you ever want to find out what we'd be conversing about, feel free to drop me a line! :D skyblue_reverie at comcast dot net. And I will definitely add you to my addy book! Thanks!

Yay, new laptop, that's always fun. I sent you the second part of All that Matters last night... do you need me to resend it? And while were on the subject, feel free to be brutal, I'm not at all surer about this one...I think it's the lack of porn....enjoy the new toy...<3
Sky: [bg] guitarskyblue_reverie on November 12th, 2010 05:42 pm (UTC)
Heya! Nope, no need to resent; I got it. Haven't had a chance to open it, but probably will tonight. Can't wait! <3

Damn, I need me some Chris/Karl soooo bad, that I mis-read your post as RPF not RIP. *rolls eyes*. Nevertheless, enjoy your new laptop! Now go soak it in pr0n! Start as you mean to go on. :D

Ha, you do have it bad! :p Not that I blame you. RPF is much more fun than RIP.

Mmm, pron. Yes, that is wise advice.

Toshiba is actually the second best brand in the market for longevity! (The first is Asus.)

I just bought a new Toshiba last Saturday.

oooh, good to know! And congrats on your new laptop too. :)

New laptops are shiny but then there's all that STUFF to get back to the way you like it. And, I'm actually stunned. I hate Outlook and only use it for work e-mail as I have no choice. Gmail is sooooo much better (and is freakin' awesome on my new android phone)! But, I also know that gmail took me a bit to get adjusted to from yahoo, so maybe it's that?

And, if you're ever in need of a geek opinion, I gots them. ;) And am now almost always on gmail. You know weepingnaiad AT gmail DOT com

I seem to be the only one who likes outlook. No, it's not adjusting to gmail, as I've been using it exclusively for work for over two years. Like you with Outlook, I wouldn't use gmail for work if I had any choice in the matter. I just hate gmail. Webmail in general, but gmail in particular. It's buggy as hell and I've found it really unreliable - it'll be like "oh, sorry, we're having some technical difficulties and we're down right now" on a far too regular basis. But I'm glad it works for other people.

I had an old Toshiba that I loved but had to replace because it was old. I loved that computer. lol.

Hope you like this one. :)

Aww, no need for envy. I really loved my sony and I wouldn't've replaced it if it hadn't basically become unusable. Sometimes tried and true is the best, you know! But hopefully the new one will be good too.

I hope that you enjoy your new laptop! At least you have most of your stuff backed up. I was very silly and didn't do so when I switched laptops before school began. I was not a happy camper.

I also hope that you're doing well <3
Sky: [other] cocoaskyblue_reverie on November 13th, 2010 05:05 am (UTC)
Thank you! And argh, I so know the pain of not having packed up and having a computer die. It's the WORST.

Aww, thank you so much for saying that and yeah, I'm actually doing pretty good right now! How are you doin', bb? <3

Yay for a new laptop! I'm trying to keep this one until I get out of grad school and into a real job. It's a Gateway, and I've had good luck with them.

Completely off topic, but I'm itching to write and for some reason to write J/W. You wouldn't happen to have a spare bunny laying around or something that you've always wanted me to write, would you?
Sky: [j&w] jw ampersandskyblue_reverie on November 13th, 2010 05:06 am (UTC)
I had a Gateway desktop compy waaaayyyyyyyy back when, but I haven't ever had a laptop. I did like the desktop, though. Hope yours lasts you!

OMG you are going to write some J/W! That is cause for major celebration! I shall think about plot bunnies and such. Oooh, so exciting!

A line has been shot. Poor line, what did it ever do to anybody?

I always thought a laptop was a cat. :P

Iz a dinosaur. Rawr.
Sky: [other] heart splashskyblue_reverie on November 13th, 2010 06:34 am (UTC)
Bb! Got your poor murdered line, thank you very much. Up for any chatting tomorrow?

In my case, the laptop is the compy and the cat is a "shintop" since I always sit on the lounge part of my couch where I can stretch my legs out and then she sits on my lower legs. I am, in fact, on the couch right now with both my laptop and my shintop. ;)

Ooh, I'm in the market for a PC, mostly because I feel kinda guilty using my work laptop for absolutely EVERYTHING (fanfic, PhotoShop, even schoolwork for my MBA) for the past 4.5 years. Any advice on minimum specs (and if you know where I worked, you'd be laughing so hard at that question)? I have no idea what to get except for a solid state drive. They upgraded computers at work and the SSDs are the greatest thing ever!
Skyskyblue_reverie on November 15th, 2010 11:19 am (UTC)
omg I don't know how I missed this! I'm so sorry. I am definitely no expert, but I did a couple hours of research on cnet, pcmag.com, and consumerreports.org, and all of them rated the Toshiba that I got very highly. I got it from Best Buy, and it's kind of a middle-of-the-line laptop. I'd dig out the model number if it weren't 3 in the morning and I wasn't so lazy. :p If you're interested I can do that in the morning. Well, later int he morning.

But mine doesn't have a solid state drive - I looked at those and they seem totally cool but all the laptops with them were out of my price range. :( Well, maybe next time.
