My brother, I'll call him Jeff, and his best friend, who I'll call Ethan (names changed to protect me) have been inseparable since they met in college, nearly 10 years ago. They live together and have for several years. They work together (they are writers and co-write nearly everything they do), play together (basketball, going out to clubs, etc), and, in short, are with each other nearly 24 hours a day. Ethan is brilliant but neurotic and temperamental. He can't make up his mind about anything - I swear he asks my brother what he should wear before he gets dressed in the morning. My brother, on the other hand, while I think he is brilliant too, is much more sunny and easy-going, and takes Ethan's neuroses in stride. They really compliment each other in every possible way. I've even heard them joke about how they should get married (unfortunately my brother used this as ammunition to tell me why the House/Wilson flirtatious banter doesn't mean anything, because straight guys who are "just friends" banter like that "all the time"). I've teased him about it - they have this photo on the wall at their apartment, it's the two of them in tuxes on the beach. Their tuxes have gotten slightly rumpled - loosened bowties and so forth - and both of them just look so happy, and are smiling so genuinely. I told him that it looks like they just got married on the beach. He just laughed.
As I said, they both seem to be straight - they've both had relationships with varous girls, some of which were quite serious. But I can hope, can't I?
Am I totally insane? Am I the only one who ever slashes someone that they know in real life? Ah well, if I'm wrong, I don't want to be right.
