Great chapter!
I continue to commend both of you of the realism of Pike & McCoy's relationships--the ups and downs, the days when neither one really wants sex but goes through the motions anyway, the jealousy that will always rear its head at some point when you love someone that much.

I do fear for their relationship because, even if they plan to spend the next 60-70 years together, the greater part of 9 years spent light years apart (especially in the early part of a relationship) is ALOT of strain. I've seen marriages suffer under the strain of just a few weeks or months of separation, marriages that had 10+, 15+ years on them.

One more thing: I continue to believe that Len is so convinced of Jim's need for him (and vice versa) that he'd give up his lover if forced to choose. And that's such a heart-breaking thing for me. Epic friendship is epic; epic love, even more so.

Re: Great chapter!
Thank you! I think we've both worked hard to make everything as realistic as possible. It's what makes it so enjoyable to write for me.

I try to think of their being apart, their relationship, not any different than all the others that serve on starships or space stations where their loved ones are back on earth or somewhere else. It's the Starfleet way of life. Realistically, Chris and Len wouldn't see each other as often as they have. We've just taken liberty with that for our selfish purpose. Chris being lifetime Starfleet, is more used to it than Len, but he get's it.

As far as Len and Jim, this is what my thoughts have always been. If it ever came to a point where Chris forced Len to choose, it wouldn't have anything to do with how much he loves Chris, or his loyalty to Jim. What you have to think about is, would you want to be with someone, marry someone and spend your life with them if they made you make that choice?

Re: Great chapter!
I almost never jump in in the middle of a conversation but here I go - I guess my thought is though, what if Chris doesn't make him choose - what if life makes him choose? It's a hell of a thing to live with the idea that if your partner was forced to choose between you and his best friend you'd lose...even in an entirely imaginary "what if we were both drowning" kind of way...it's bound to be a little disconcerting (at best).

Loved the chapter as always, great to have to have the sex back on track after the entirely realistic failure...

I find these kinds of separations entirely normal, my parents spent 40 years with one of them circling the globe on freighters...some relationships work just fine that way, even though it's hard.

It's excellent, the live in the starfleet command is not a way of roses.
I love the caring for Jim even if Chris is a bit jealous, the boy needs them so much with the assholes around them.

Can't wait for more.

Thank you! The life of a Starfleet officer or any Starfleet member for that matter isn't easy.

Jim does need to know he has people who care about him. Chris never really stopped caring, he was just blinded by that horrible jealousy.

I guess it's just that ever since you told me about your talk with Old Spock, and how he told you that you and him, or the other him, this universe's him, were destined to be the most epic friends of all time and people would write goddamn songs about you or something - ha ha! so epic!

the sex was hot and the end was saaaaaaaaaaad :-(

Wasn't that a great line that my co-writer wrote? It cracked me up every time I read it.

Hot sex. Check.
Angst. Check.

Seems like a typical section for us. *g*
