Well, hello, my loves.

I am feeling slightly out-of-sorts because I am coming down with a cold or flu or something. Headachy and shivery and scratchy-throaty with a slight cough and drippy nose kind of thing. Not bad enough to justify staying curled up in bed with a good book and a cup of tea, but bad enough to make me feel cranky and wish I could stay curled up in bed with a good book and a cup of tea.

This past weekend, as some of you know, my laptop suffered Extreme Catastrophic Sudden Death, a.k.a. hard drive failure. It started making a most alarming buzzing noise and then gave me the finger, otherwise known as the Blue Screen of DOOM. Then it started randomly turning off and back on again, never actually booting completely. It will not even boot into safe mode. And, of course, being a total idiot, I never back up my data, so it all may be lost. WOE. At least I have my fic-in-progress saved on my little flash drive that I carry everywhere with me, and I managed to copy my "Favorites" folder when I heard the whirring noise start, but everything else may be gone. Emails, music, all my lovely lovely icons and Stephen Fry pics, fic ideas, personal documents like my budget and resume... all gone. I do also have a desktop computer - not as cozy to do fannish stuff at a desk instead of curled up on the comfy couch with kitties next to me, but still, at least I'm not cut off altogether. That would truly be horrific! Anyway the laptop is with the computer repair place so hopefully something can be recovered. Wish me computer-luck, my darlings!

I am also horrendously disappointed in the first episode of House. I shan't say anymore than that because I know there are unspoiled people out there who will not see the episode for weeks or months because they don't live in the U.S. and have some silly objection to illegal downloading. Hmph! Anyway, I appear to be in the itty-bitty minority, judging by the squeeful reactions going on over at house_wilson. I'm glad they enjoyed it; I did not. My House energies were already waning because of my obsessive devotion to J/W and now to the other Fry & Laurie fandoms I've discovered; I am very much afraid that if the show continues this way, I may be on my way out of the House fandom altogether. I certainly hope not. Show writers, prove me wrong!!

In happier news, the new multi-Fry & Laurie-fandom lj rpg soupy_twist is about to start up - I will be playing both Bertie and Jeeves. Yay! I am quite excited to see how it goes! For now the players can muck about with their characters' ljs but there are no community posts - the community posts should kick off this weekend. If anyone else who's playing a character happens to see this, I got the official mod word that it's up to individual players whether to announce their identities in their own ljs and/or in their characters' ljs (in the userinfo). I have done so - if any other players want to chat with me OOC, feel free to drop me an email or a comment on this lj.

I'd love to get you guys' input on what you think Bertie and Jeeves should do! I'm somewhat nervous about it because I am not familiar yet with all of the fandoms involved - I am busily working on it, but I'm not there yet. So how would Jeeves react to Hugo Cartwright, or Bertie to Tony Inchpractice? Also, I need to fill out the user info page for Jeeves and Bertie - I've got a few interests started, but I'd like more. If you can think of lj interests for Jeeves and Bertie, feel free to suggest them in a comment here!

If you didn't get in on the RPG yet but you're interested, they will be adding more characters as it goes. Right now from J & W, for example, there are Bertie, Jeeves, Aunt Agatha, Roderick Spode, Gussie Fink-Nottle, and Madeline Bassett. But we certainly could use an Aunt Dahlia, a Bingo Little, oh, any number of other characters - and that's only from J & W! Anyway, check it out - whether to play or watch, it should be very fun!

And now I really should go to bed. Good night, my dears! Hope you are all doing well. :*

Sudden Computer Death, there's nothing worse. I hope the repair people will manage to salvage what salvaged can be for you.

That RPG does sound interesting, and I've been thinking about signing up ever since it was first announced, but there's no character I feel I could do justice. :/ For now I'll just enjoy reading what you creative souls have been up to.

Thank you for your good computer thoughts, my dear! I am supposed to hear back today if anything was recoverable, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Definitely watch the RPG, and if you feel the urge, jump in at some later point! I know they'll be adding characters, and I'm sure you could find a character somewhere in the Fry & Laurie fandoms that you'd feel comfortable playing! From House, all we've got is a House so far, but I'd love to see the other characters from House as well, just as one example.

Oh, I'm sorry! I just got over a cold, so I know how that sucks, and then adding this computer trouble on top of it...you need to take a day and kick back, if you can. It will do wonders.

I watched House last night too, and I wasn't exactly thrilled with it either. I'm not about ready to leave the House fandom behind, but House is... different [struggles to avoid spoilers] and it's going to take some getting used to. But I agree with you- watching last night was a little like reading an OOC fanfiction. The writers need to remember that they walk a fine line with this character.

I know nothing of RPG. Never done it, never will, so I can't help you there.
Sky: [j&w] pyjamasskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 03:26 pm (UTC)
Aww, thank you, my dear. Yes, I definitely wish I could take a day to kick back... Unfortunately, one of the things that my boss was ripping me apart for at the staff meeting the other day was taking too many sick days. So of course now I don't feel like I can. :( Ah well. I'm not really that sick, I'll survive. Anyway, maybe I'm contagious and I'll get him sick too, which would be satisfying (if slightly petty) revenge. :p

Thank you for avoiding spoilers - I know it's hard! If you feel like chatting about it, feel free to drop me an email. But YES EXACTLY EXACTLY EXACTLY on it being like an OOC fanfiction. That is it perfectly. On it taking some getting used to - I'm sure you're right, but I don't want to have to get used to a different House! I liked my House exactly the way he was! Waaaah! Well I'll watch a few more anyway, and see what happens.

Hee, all right, if you've got no interest in RPG I certainly won't force it on you. :)

Is it bad to say that I agree with both of you about the newest season of House? I really hope he, well, unchanges? Would that work? It just seems so odd. Every character just was a bit off.

By the way, Sky Blue, I love your Bertie and while I have read three wodehousian novels and seen two seasons of Jeeves and Wooster, sometimes I feel like I need help. Is there any chance that I could perhaps hit off some of my Gussie on you to see how it sounds? (Gussie barely ever talks. It's hard. >.> Though I have to admit, I am learning quite a bit about newts..)
Sky: [j&w] bertie smile animatedskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 11:12 pm (UTC)
It is not bad at all - I am glad that you agree! I really hope he unchanges too. Yes, exactly - every character was like a pod version of themselves. I was seriously expecting (or at least hoping) that the whole thing was a continuation of his hallucination. Dammit!

Yay, thank you very much for saying you like my Bertie! I really like your Gussie as well - I think he's spot on! I'm happy to help any way I can, though. I must admit that I was kind of hoping that your Gussie would be pre-Emerald because I think an unmarried Gussie lends himself better to Wacky Wodehousian Hijinx. I was thinking that we could see how many times we could bounce Madeline Bassett between us in terms of getting engaged to her before wriggling out again. *evilgrin* So if that's something you're interested in, I think it's early enough that we could probably undo the Emerald refs so far. Especially because maybe later in the RPG we'd actually get someone to play Emerald! But if you want to keep it as is, that's no problem.

Hee, glad you're learning about newts! Thanks for dropping in, and let's plot mayhem discuss the RPG some more sometime very soon!
sojuskesojuske on September 6th, 2006 11:19 pm (UTC)
You know, you never saw the marriage. He could have just chickened out a bit and is waiting for Pop Stoker's agreement. Or at least for the man to know about it. And perhaps eventually wiggle out like a newt trying to get under a rock.

Although, if Bertie is involved, Wacky Wodehousian Hijinx will always occur. I doubt marriage on one of the people's behalves would stop it from occuring if Bertie really has a mind to "fix" things.
Skyskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 11:36 pm (UTC)
Hmm... You're right, I guess what you wrote was somewhat ambiguous (maybe Emerald is your cook if she made you steak and kidney pie?) but I think I wrecked it when I put in my comment that you were already leg-shackled, assuming that in your timeline you were already married to her. Well, if you want it to be ambiguous, I could delete my comment and re-work it to take out that reference.

And I know we can certainly get up to Wacky Hijinx even if Gussie is married, but I kind of think it'd be more fun if he's not. :D That's just me though - it's your character, so totally up to you! Let me know if you want me to rework my comment to make it more ambiguous, and I would be happy to do so.
Skyskyblue_reverie on September 7th, 2006 05:17 am (UTC)
Oooh, fantastic!!! I love how you managed to handle the marriage issue in your response to Jeeves' comment. Perfect! I'll need a bit of time to formulate an appropriate Jeevesian response, but wanted to say good show, old thing!
sojuskesojuske on September 7th, 2006 07:17 pm (UTC)
Thank you. But I'd imagine Gussie to be quite ignorant of everything. I mean, he studies newts and their mating behavior. He must also realize that sex doesn't exist as such in a newt.
I loved your response. And I feel very sorry for poor Gussie. Can't kick out Emerald (and why would he want to?), and he can't leave Julian. (Who is settling quite well in his cage. I should write another update on Julian shouldn't I? I should sketch Julian first...)

Oh, mind if I add you to my friends list?
Skyskyblue_reverie on September 7th, 2006 08:08 pm (UTC)
Newts don't have sex? Wow, well there you go - I'm totally ignorant on that subject, which is probably just as well. :)

Poor Gussie, indeed. Okay, now I've got to think more about Jeeves' next piece of advice. This isn't easy, you know! I'm not actually as smart as Jeeves, just pretending to be! :p

Definitely, friend away and I shall friend you back! :D
sojuskesojuske on September 7th, 2006 09:00 pm (UTC)
You definately seem as smart as Jeeves (and as innocent as Bertie) when you type them. It amazes me how spot on they are so far and I just have to bow down to whatever Jeeves thinks is right.

And the thing about newt sex, it's just odd. I looked it up. Supposedly the male alerts the female and drops a packet of sperm. And then the female swims over and picks it up. There you go, newt sex!
Skyskyblue_reverie on September 8th, 2006 01:38 am (UTC)
Aww, thank you! Your Gussie is spot-on as well. This is fun.

That's kind of... interesting, in an icky way, about newt sex. I can totally see poor Gussie trying to have sex this way. On his wedding night, he'd inform poor Emerald that he's left a package for her on the bathroom counter and now he's headed off to bed (in his own room, of coures). *g*

Oh, no! I hate when hard drives crash! That happened to me back in April. I'd been having trouble for a while anyway, so I was able to back up my files, but it still sucks big time when the hard drive goes out on you. *hugs* Good luck! (will be getting the next J&W DVD in the mail today! EEE! *clears throat* Sorry)
Sky: [j&w] bertie smokingskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 03:29 pm (UTC)
*hugs back* Thanks for the computer good wishes, m'dear. I'm sorry to hear about your crash too, but I'm glad you were at least able to save your files.

Oooh, exciting news indeed! No need to apologize for squeeing over J & W, I do it all the time. :) Enjoy watching the eps!
Jestana: J&W: Jeeves quirky smilejestana on September 6th, 2006 05:52 pm (UTC)
You're welcome. I did lose some files, and my favorites folder, but I saved most of my stuff.

*giggle* My closest friend wants to see J&W, too, but she doesn't want me to ramble on about them because that would turn her off them before she gets a chance to watch, so I can't squee at her about them. I already turned her off one fandom and I don't want to risk turning her off this one! Anyway, I won't get to watch them until after dinner tonight. *is in agony of waiting*
Sky: [j&w] jeeves sir animatedskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 11:15 pm (UTC)
I'm glad you saved most of your stuff. I just found out from my computer guy that he could not recover much of anything, but he recommended a place that all they do is recover crashed hard drives (for mucho dinero, of course) so they're going to give me a free estimate and I'll see what I'm looking at, if indeed anything can be recovered at all.

Oh, I totally understand about having to hold back on rambling because friends are not as fannish as I am. That's what lj is so great for! Scads of people who are as happily obsessed as I am! *luffs fandom*

Ooh, agony of waiting indeed. Have fun! Let me know which ones you see and what you thought of them!
Jestana: J&W: Almost kissjestana on September 7th, 2006 02:21 am (UTC)
It sounds to me like you didn't have much warning before your hard drive crashed. I had a week's worth of warning, so I had time to transfer everything to another computer. Good idea.

Yeah, I have the next disc, but I can't watch it yet because I'm talking to my friend on the phone right now.

It's Hunger Strike and Brinkley Manor. *bounces impatiently*

*hugs* I hope you feel better, cupcake buddy. Being sick is very little fun. In fact, it's no fun at all. *sends virtual chicken soup*

Like I said before, I do hope the show fixes itself so you don't leave. It'd be a shame for the fandom to loose such a great potential writer.

*hugs back* Thanks, cupcake buddy. I do feel a bit better this afternoon. Oooh, virtual chicken soup! Don't mind if I do. *eats soup* Thankees!

Awww, thank you. You are too sweet. I hope I don't leave the fandom as well! I'll certainly give it several weeks to redeem itself. We'll see how it goes. *crosses fingers and toes and anything else that will cross*

Hee. Hey, I didn't name any names! :p

I am sure I can help you figure it out if you want. Let me know. I'm sorry, btw, that I haven't gotten an email out to you yet. :( Will do so soonest, I promise.

Aw, honey and lemon and hair stroking. *melts* I feel much better already. Thank you so much, my dearest!

Beta Goddess Carol and I were perplexed as to whether to squeeeee just to see the guys again or grumble over what was being perpetrated. I have to check Jump The Shark and see what the consensus is over there. Plus I can't wait for the Television Without Pity recap. The most telling thing I can see is that nothing set off any new plot bunnies.
Sky: [hugh] hugh eyesskyblue_reverie on September 6th, 2006 11:27 pm (UTC)
Ha, perpetrated is an appropriate word indeed. Yeah, I was glad to see the boys again (and obviously the lighting people were glad to see HL again as well - they were in top form showing off those gorgeous blue eyes) but that couldn't make up for the rest of it.

Oh, do let me know what the consensus was. Yeah, I need to check out the TWoP recap and ep thread when I get a moment. Which might be in, like, eighteen years. :p

Oh, that is bad news indeed if no new bunnies. And yes, quite telling. For me, I wasn't specifically hoping for bunnies, but I was really hoping it would rekindle my House passion, which used to burn with the intensity of 1,000,000 suns but has lately been eclipsed by J & W. But there was nothing there that would bring back the House mojo. Alas. Here's hoping for better things in the near future for House, and bunnies for you and mojo for me!

Oh - your icon - great photo, but I was SO PISSED because right in the middle of that article was a huge spoiler for S3, with no warning! I read that sentence and then I was like "no no dear god no, I want to un-read that!" Grrrr.

Woah. It's like the bad computer thing is going around...(Mine crashed Sunday, and I'm still trying to fix it before I end up having to format C) Good luck with that!

Er, what about the Season 03 House ep didn't you like? The Wilson? The leg? The running scenes? The scurvy?
Sky: [j&w] bertie racquetskyblue_reverie on September 7th, 2006 01:41 am (UTC)
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear about your computer! It's the worst, isn't it? Had you backed up your data anytime recently? I swear I have learned my lesson now.

Ack! My love, I am trying to keep spoilers off of this thread because I do have f-list peeps who haven't seen the ep and likely won't for weeks yet. I'd be happy to discuss it with you in depth (I love to kvetch) but perhaps via email, or we could take it over to your lj if you're not worried about spoilers?
Zekkass: million yearszekkass on September 7th, 2006 02:02 am (UTC)
Nope, but as soon as it works again I will. Thankfully, I was able to get most of my stuff off of C, and I keep everything else on different drives, which aren't in trouble.

Ah, okay. My email's cena@ringwald.org, if you will. Keep it off of my lj, though. I have a friend who hasn't seen it yet and she really, really wants to see it w/out spoilers.
