I am feeling slightly out-of-sorts because I am coming down with a cold or flu or something. Headachy and shivery and scratchy-throaty with a slight cough and drippy nose kind of thing. Not bad enough to justify staying curled up in bed with a good book and a cup of tea, but bad enough to make me feel cranky and wish I could stay curled up in bed with a good book and a cup of tea.
This past weekend, as some of you know, my laptop suffered Extreme Catastrophic Sudden Death, a.k.a. hard drive failure. It started making a most alarming buzzing noise and then gave me the finger, otherwise known as the Blue Screen of DOOM. Then it started randomly turning off and back on again, never actually booting completely. It will not even boot into safe mode. And, of course, being a total idiot, I never back up my data, so it all may be lost. WOE. At least I have my fic-in-progress saved on my little flash drive that I carry everywhere with me, and I managed to copy my "Favorites" folder when I heard the whirring noise start, but everything else may be gone. Emails, music, all my lovely lovely icons and Stephen Fry pics, fic ideas, personal documents like my budget and resume... all gone. I do also have a desktop computer - not as cozy to do fannish stuff at a desk instead of curled up on the comfy couch with kitties next to me, but still, at least I'm not cut off altogether. That would truly be horrific! Anyway the laptop is with the computer repair place so hopefully something can be recovered. Wish me computer-luck, my darlings!
I am also horrendously disappointed in the first episode of House. I shan't say anymore than that because I know there are unspoiled people out there who will not see the episode for weeks or months because they don't live in the U.S. and have some silly objection to illegal downloading. Hmph! Anyway, I appear to be in the itty-bitty minority, judging by the squeeful reactions going on over at house_wilson. I'm glad they enjoyed it; I did not. My House energies were already waning because of my obsessive devotion to J/W and now to the other Fry & Laurie fandoms I've discovered; I am very much afraid that if the show continues this way, I may be on my way out of the House fandom altogether. I certainly hope not. Show writers, prove me wrong!!
In happier news, the new multi-Fry & Laurie-fandom lj rpg soupy_twist is about to start up - I will be playing both Bertie and Jeeves. Yay! I am quite excited to see how it goes! For now the players can muck about with their characters' ljs but there are no community posts - the community posts should kick off this weekend. If anyone else who's playing a character happens to see this, I got the official mod word that it's up to individual players whether to announce their identities in their own ljs and/or in their characters' ljs (in the userinfo). I have done so - if any other players want to chat with me OOC, feel free to drop me an email or a comment on this lj.
I'd love to get you guys' input on what you think Bertie and Jeeves should do! I'm somewhat nervous about it because I am not familiar yet with all of the fandoms involved - I am busily working on it, but I'm not there yet. So how would Jeeves react to Hugo Cartwright, or Bertie to Tony Inchpractice? Also, I need to fill out the user info page for Jeeves and Bertie - I've got a few interests started, but I'd like more. If you can think of lj interests for Jeeves and Bertie, feel free to suggest them in a comment here!
If you didn't get in on the RPG yet but you're interested, they will be adding more characters as it goes. Right now from J & W, for example, there are Bertie, Jeeves, Aunt Agatha, Roderick Spode, Gussie Fink-Nottle, and Madeline Bassett. But we certainly could use an Aunt Dahlia, a Bingo Little, oh, any number of other characters - and that's only from J & W! Anyway, check it out - whether to play or watch, it should be very fun!
And now I really should go to bed. Good night, my dears! Hope you are all doing well. :*
