Mr Wooster Takes a Job
Well, here's the belt!fic, darlings! This is for everyone who threatened to kill me if I didn't encouraged me to write this fic. Huge thanks to all of you, because this one was rather terrifying. I hope you enjoy!

Title: Mr Wooster Takes a Job
Author: Sky Blue Reverie skyblue_reverie
Fandom: Jeeves and Wooster
Pairing: J/W
Rating: NC-17. I'm not joking, peoples, this one is seriously kinkeh. It's not for the kiddies!
Word Count: Approximately 8,500
Summary: Third in the series, after The Matter of Mr Wooster's Headaches and Jeeves and the Serious Consequences. Pretty much what the title implies, plus smutty belt!kink. I strongly recommend that you read these in order, if you haven't read the first two yet. It will make much more sense that way.
Disclaimer: *checks again hopefully* Nope, still not mine.
A/N: Roses, chocolate, and massive thanks to leaper182, rivers_bend, fenriss, weaselwoman13, and cicerothewriter for beta, you are all fabulous and much appreciated! Thanks also to the corking maxine_penborne for requesting bottom!Jeeves. Poems quoted are by Alice Meynell; you can find both of the poems I quoted, and others by her, here.
Feedback: YESPLZKTHXBAI. I mean, er, why yes, I would love feedback, thank you so very much indeed.

Belt!fic ahoy!Collapse )

ETA: After I wrote and posted this, zekkass posted on indeedsir a gorgeous photo of cowboy!Bertie and irked!Jeeves. It was too appropriate & perfect to resist, so I'm putting a linky here. Thanks, ennui_blue_lite, for the suggestion!

meinos on August 19th, 2006 04:43 am (UTC)
Oh, wow.

I remember, when I first saw The Matter of Mr. Wooster's Headaches posted, I was quite wary -- you said you hadn't written in a long time, and the idea was one that I knew could go horribly awry in the wrong hands (and on top of that, you were writing from Jeeves' POV, which, again, I've seen done badly more often than done well.) Of course, my worries turned out to be completely unfounded and you turned out to be one of the best writers in the fandom.

And then you wrote Jeeves and the Serious Consequences, which I knew instantly that I was going to love, because I'd seen your writing, and you were writing my one of my absolute favorite fanfiction!kinks (people being tied up with ties (specifically *g*)). Naturally, I was completely right about that.

With this, I was a bit worried. If it had been almost anyone else writing it, I probably would've skipped over it, because this sort of kink is usually (read: has always been, without prior exception) extremely squicky for me. Just not into it. But I trusted you, because your previous fics were so damn good, and, I figured, even if I didn't enjoy the kinkiness, it would be worth putting up with in order to enjoy your writing. Well, needless to say, I was blown away.

I'll begin with my adoring praise at the beginning.

Even though I've seen you write Jeeves POV before, I was again stunned at how perfectly you pulled it off. It's absolutely spot on. I mean. It's just perfect.

Bertie deciding to get a job was one of the cutest things ever. That is just so. adorable. And then, "I looked at him with amused indulgence. My employer occasionally gets strange whims such as this, and it is usually the work of a moment to distract him or change his mind." I think I may have let out a small sort of squeak, like when I see a really cute kitten. *g*

Your plot seemed like exactly the kind of mess that Bertie would find himself in when he was taking a break from getting tangled up in engagements. One of the most oh-so-perfectly fitting and plausible plots in a Jeeves and Wooster fanfiction I've ever seen, and I was struck by your excellent Bertie voice when he was explaining it. Also, it's a decidedly Tuppy-eqsue scheme. (Tuppy was always one of my favorites of Bertie's friends, particularly in the TV series, where I found whatshisname's portrayal of him hilarious.)

"I had little hope that this method would work, but it had occasionally been effective in the past. I merely pretended that the entire conversation regarding his intention to take a job had not occurred and that we were going to America as planned." HA! Oh! The fact that such a thing would ever work . . . completely adorable without being unbelievable. And I quite liked Jeeves' crafty, Jeevesian way of making it impossible for Bertie to sell anything.

"I saw him off with a kiss, beguiled despite myself by the sparkle in his eye." It's beginning to grow difficult to think of new ways to say 'astoundingly adorable'. That whole paragraph was . . . oh, cute.

""Can we just eat in here tonight, together? The dining room seems so… stiff and formal somehow. And… I'd rather that you didn't have to serve me, tonight."" *melts, melts, and melts again* Oh, Bertie.

"I was concerned that he would notice that something was amiss, but he merely accepted my fervent attentions with the same uninhibited and innocent joy that he always brings to our intimate relations." I can't tell you how much I love to see them so delightfully sweet. You do an excellent job of conveying the perfect level of 'complete and utter adoration' in both of them.

". . . the style of apparel of the American cowboy, as imagined by a British tailor who had been to the cinema one too many times." *loves* That entire description was hilarious.

(To be continued.)
meinos on August 19th, 2006 04:45 am (UTC)
And then -- wow. I have to say, I think you wrote the absolute hottest scene leading up to a sex scene EVER. I couldn't tell you why, specifically (aside from the obvious fact that it was the anticipation), but . . . wow, yum.

Finally, I reached the part that I was oh-so nervous about reading. As I should have expected from you, I needn't have been.

I think that the reason it worked so well for me was that it wasn't 'dirty'. You described Bertie's "innocent and naïve sensuality" (a description, incidentally, which was far too delicious for words), and I think that's really what it boils down to. Usually this is more of an, 'oh, yeah, hit me, I am a dirty, dirty boy,' sort of kink, and I guess that's why I've always found it so icky. But the way you, wrote it, it . . . wasn't like that. It was just -- I'm reluctant to use this word YET AGAIN, but it was just . . . sweet.

I don't think I'll be able to manage to type coherently about the hot, hot sex for much longer, but. My number one, over-arching fic!kink is power play, and I don't think I've ever read anything that dealt with the exchange of power between two character more compellingly or sexily than this.

I think I'm going to give this yet another re-read (a number of times while typing this comment, when I went to get things I wanted to quote, I ended up reading the whole thing again) and go to bed.

As an afterthought, I've just realised I forgot to mention:

"Jeeves, America can wait. I believe that America is a rather large body of land, and I don't think it's going to get up and wander off." Is a fantastic and hilarious line, and one of the more strikingly Wodehouseian bits of dialogue (not to say that there weren't a vast amount of quite strikingly Wodehouseian lines, because there were).

*adores story completely*

See, I told you I'd read this, didn't I? And it was marvellous, dear, as usual. It's a challenge to make D/s kink work in any fandom, let alone Wodehouse (the poor man must be spinning in his grave, hee) but you've done a wonderful job. I confess that spanking isn't really my cup of tea, but it does fit extremely well with your Jeeves's personality, and I can see Bertie getting into it because of the emotional connection. The poor boy would be starved for that sort of attention.

In short: bally good job, old thing!
Sky: [j&w] tie heartsskyblue_reverie on August 19th, 2006 05:05 pm (UTC)
You did indeed. I do thank you for reading it, and I'm so glad you enjoyed, especially since the kink is not your cup of tea. It must be said, however, darling, that you were the one who put the idea in my head in the first place, what with Jeeves being all dumbstruck by Bertie in the bath covered in scratches and bruises in "A Lute Unstrung." So if anyone asks, it was all your fault! *points and looks around wildly*

Anyway, thanks so much for reading and commenting, especially in a fandom that I know you have largely moved on from. *weeps quietly*

And how perfect is that icon! *g*

In the immortal words of Jerry Lee Lewis...
You leave me....breath-less-aaaahhh. And I'll tell you why. Obviously I knew the belt action was coming so I was on tenterhooks before and in orgiastic ecstaties during that bit not to mention in some kind of "oh my god, I can't breath and yet I'm still alive" suspended animation, during the sex itself especially the bottoming (from the top, course). But even more amazing was the way you manage to juggle the three flaming chainsaws of 1. maintaining 100% in character voices, while 2. having the explicit and kinky sexuality that could never have occurred in the original even though we can now see how absolutely implicit it was in the relationship and 3. Making it all so fucking HOT!
You are both a goddess and a magician for bringing it all together brilliantly.
I'm fascinated by the idea that you're going to examine Jeeve's "unpleasant incident." Your Jeeves is now realer to me than Wodehouse's Jeeves or even Stephen Fry's Jeeves. He is your Jeeves with his peculiar quirks and experiences.
I also hope you'll follow up at some point with something about the Bertie's experience of punishment school which we mentioned in a comment chain on the last story I think. I'd love to see how they both got to the place where their kinks mesh so perfectly.
Now I will go retrain myself to use my mouth and lungs. Apparently this breathing stuff comes in handy now and again.

Re: In the immortal words of Jerry Lee Lewis...
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much. Speaking of orgiastic ecstasies, that is what I am experiencing upon reading your gorgeous comment.

I am so glad that you thought that the kink was both hot and in character because honestly, I was terrified about that with this one. I kind of thought one of those flaming chainsaws was going to come down right on my head, honestly! I mean, belt!kink, in a J/W fic?! I must be insane! :)

And this? Your Jeeves is now realer to me than Wodehouse's Jeeves or even Stephen Fry's Jeeves.

That killed me. Seriously. Thank you so much. I don't even know how to respond to this. I am speechless.

Of course, in my head, it is Stephen Fry's Jeeves and Hugh Laurie's Bertie doing all these dirty things to each other, but that is possibly just a result of my porntastic brain. *g*

As for future projects: I have not totally decided what I'm going to do about the rape reference. I think I will try to write it up, but depending on whether I like the results at all, and depending on if others are interested, I may or may not do anything with it. If this fic was three flaming chainsaws, that one will be like seven. It scares me! :)

As to Bertie's past, that's an interesting idea. I hadn't thought about actually writing up anything about that, more just kept it in mind as background, but I'll definitely think on it some more.

Sorry about the breathing troubles, old thing! Just remember, in and out. In and out. In, out. In... er, sorry again, possibly not helping matters here. *g*

Anyway, again, thank you so much for that incredibly delicious and flattering feedback. *hugs*

Amazing, amazing, amazing! I just read all three parts in one go and, I have to say, it's been a good long while since a fic has left me in my chair, staring at the computer, wondering how one person can be such a good writer like this did.

The Matter of Mr Wooster's Headaches was one of the greatest romance build-ups I've ever read. I couldn't stop smiling for a long while after reading that. Hell, I'm still grinning.

Jeeves and the Serious Consequences was completely amazing. Wodehouse could've been the author. So, so, so in character.

This? Guh. Kink has never been better. ^_^

I am so glad that this was the first J/W I've ever read. What a great introduction to the fandom. Would you mind if I friended you?

Thank you for the kind words on all of my fics! I'm really glad you enjoyed them! And I'm happy that the kink didn't freak you out or seem OOC for this fandom, because I was worried about that with this one.

Welcome to the fandom, old bean! There are lots of fantastic J/W authors out there - really amazingly good stuff.

"Thank you, sir."

He heaved another small sigh. "I just wanted you to be proud of me, Jeeves," he said in a slightly forlorn voice.

That's my fave part! Well, other than the delicious sex, hehe! Aw, Jeeves was all in control and then he gave himself to Bertie. How sweet!

Also liked the story BEFORE all the yummy sex, lol! When will people learn that Jeeves knows best?

Hee, thank you so very much indeed, old thing! I'm so glad it met with your approval.

Hehe, the thought of Bertie in grey pinstripes does things to me. Good things. :) And he so knew that he was going to be bad, what with the cowboy outfit, so he ordered the suit as a make-up gesture in advance. Bertie is so sweet. :)

Yay, I'm glad you thought the sex was delicious! And Jeeves is so sweet too, in his own way. *licks Jeeves* Geez, I'm starting to make a habit of that around you, aren't I? *g*

You're totally right, Jeeves always knows best, but, y'know, it's that little rebellious streak of Bertie's that is a large part of his charm, I think. If he just always did whatever Jeeves wanted, I don't think that Jeeves, or we, would love him nearly as much. That'd just be boring. :)

Thanks so much for commenting, old bean!

Oh, wow, this is.... yes. Just insert general flailing glee here (and a good dose of oh-my-god-hot) and you'll have my reaction perfectly.

This is delightful. Any story that can make me laugh, squirm and go "awwww!" at the end is a great read.

And the kinky sex was so *right*. The trouble with kink is not the hotness factor but the characterisation: hitting a kink is easy, making it believable that the characters share the kink is not. But here, you've done it. It makes complete sense -- when you think about Bertie and Jeeves -- and it's yet another way that they fit together.

And it didn't so much push my buttons as smoosh the entire remote.
Sky: [j&w] jw ampersandskyblue_reverie on September 1st, 2006 03:15 pm (UTC)
Yay for flailing glee! I'm so happy I inspired that! :)

I'm really glad that you found the kink in-character, because that was the most important thing to me. As you say, it doesn't matter if a fic is super-hot, if it's not in character then what's the point? Kinky J/W made sense to me, but I wasn't sure that I'd be able to convey it well enough, or that others would agree on it being IC, so I'm really happy that you think it worked. I totally agree that it's another way they completely fit together. Jeeves + Bertie = twoo wuv 4eva!!! (ahem, sorry.)

Hee - 'smoosh the entire remote' - that's a great image. Glad I could smoosh the remote! *g*

Thanks so much for your kind words, old bean!

very late...apologies for the tardiness
I've to confess, when you said that you'll be writing Bertie belt!fic, I was worried and intrigued, and when I read the title, I worried even more. After all, Bertie has certain feelings about what he does, but you've a great Jeeves voice that reassured me first paragraph in.

The best thing about your Jeeves is that you kept that roguish aspect about him. As much as he's the devoted employee and loving friend, there's the deviousness about him involving surprising connections and a strong-hand in the management of his gentleman. It's all perfectly in canon of course, how Jeeves is willing to let Bertie suffer for his own good; he is a "domestic Mussolini" where that's concerned, but Bertie's always grateful at the end of it. I like how that in your J&W, the relationship has progressed to the point where Jeeves attempts to reason with Bertie first, and the consequence of the disagreement has more immediate repercussions. The sleepless night part is heart-melting, and I love how Jeeves is at once fond and exasperated in the morning- not (thank goodness) parental, but not silly in the drippy way that Bertie abhors. They're too good for lover's tiffs, Jeeves is used to getting his way at the ends, convincing Bertie in the process. All that plot, the meetings! Such a deliberate, planning man...for Bertie's own good of course.

The little things are the best though. Things like I saw him off with a kiss, beguiled despite myself by the sparkle in his eye. reminds me of how often Bertie remarks on the twinkling intelligence in Jeeves own eyes. It's particularly nice to see what Jeeves see, and the word "beguiled" used by the outwardly grave Jeeves is particularly touching.

I love how you kept the Bertie blushes. It happens enough times in canon that to leave them out would've been a great loss. Like Jeeves in "While I was tempted to follow that comment with a slightly prurient remark, if only because I enjoy seeing Mr Wooster blush, ", I enjoy seeing Bertie blush, too. Also, of course man who quotes Shakespeare would have a great store of prurient remarks handy. It's really a great detail :)

The dialogue between these two stubborn man is a wonder; Bertram's borders on the merciless imperative sometimes, and Jeeves the sadly deferential if not for everything else that happens between them. Wodehouse uses Bertie's elaborate language to upset the lack of affections in speech, with Jeeves perspective, you use the demonstraton of the affection between the two, while managing to make it sound natural.

"Jeeves, I feel worlds better. If I could bottle and sell you door-to-door, I would make a bally fortune."

"A moving tribute, sir," I said dryly.

"Well deserved, Jeeves," he assured me. "I shall sally forth tomorrow with renewed enthusiasm. You have rejuvenated me completely."

The irony! It's wonderful, this bit.

I think you're one of the few authors who actually keeps the "sir" even in the more intimate scenes. It works brilliantly of course, just like Bertie calling "Jeeves" instead of "Reggie." It's very Them. Though if Bertie can purchased and worn this attire deliberately as a way of provoking my passions., Jeeves must realise that he's less innocent than he look. Innocent and naive compared to Jeeves, perhaps, but not so naivete in sensuality as he seems/wants to think :p

Love the denouement. We all know that Bertie cares about Jeeves opinions, but him working so Jeeves can feel even better about his gentlman (nevermind Aunt A), is just such a wonderful development. Bertie has always been a man of action :D

Also, I find it that Jeeves quoting poetry as a source of comfort for Bertie immensely satifying, and a likely confession. Despite being both rather literary, Jeeves always struck me as someone who felt what he quoted (he doesn't misquote, for example), while Bertie would opt for whatever sounds good. I've a feeling that whatever your Jeeves past was, it involved far more serious and complicated antics than the ones he resolves in the service of Bertie and his friends.
