Weekend Update
Just a random update on me, my weekend, and the belt!fic (yes, I know you're all just here for the pr0n *g*).

Last night we went and saw Santana at Shoreline. It was a last minute thing - my husband's been wanting to see them for ages, and then he found out they were coming around this weekend, and lo and behold there were still general admit tickets left. So we brought our beach towel and cushions and went and had a lovely time at the show. The music was fantastic (they brought onstage the opening act, Anthony Hamilton, for a few songs. Damn, that man has a set of pipes!) And Carlos Santana himself, of course was amazing as always on the music-front, but I was really impressed at what he said between songs as well. He said some really moving things about being proud to come from the Bay Area, and how we are different from the part of the country that blindly follows Bush (*shudder*) because we are diverse, and accept each other's differences, and we come from a place of joy and hope, not fear. He talked about his experiences living through the history of the bay area, from the Haight-Ashbury scene to the Black Panther movement, and up through today. He talked about unity, and peace, and consciousness, about accepting ourselves and others, and how we should be able to explore the masculine and feminine sides of ourselves without the fear of being called ugly names. And, okay, I was probably experiencing a massive contact high because about half of Humboldt County's annual output was hanging in the haze above the lawn, but still! The man is positively bursting with inner peace and love for his fellow creatures. He comes at it from a spiritual/religious angle, which isn't really my thing, but man, I can't argue with the results. Whatever he's doing is really working for him. Anyway, it was a lovely time and I'm really glad we went. (And, yes, my parents were hippies and I'm a tree-hugging, bleeding heart ultra-liberal - why do you ask? *g*)

Today is for errandy/choresy stuff, plus a barbecue. Got to do some laundry, get groceries, hold down kitty #2 and brush her because she's starting to get matted (she's not a very enthusiastic self-groomer). I'm also planning to stop by a music store because I've been wanting to pick up the latest Neko Case album - they've been playing it on radio paradise pretty heavily and everything I've heard so far is amazing. So we'll probably go to Rasputin sometime today. This afternoon we've got a friend's bbq/potluck to go to - should be fun, but man, I'd rather be doing fannish stuff. Damn these tedious social obligations! :)

As for the belt!fic, it's coming along nicely. I've got about eight pages so far, five of them total smut. It is Jeeves POV and yes, my fellow kink-monsters, there is belt lashing and Jeeves bottoming. *g* A plot bunny hatched yesterday (yes, I have a male muse and my plot bunnies hatch rather than being born, so there! *g*) so that's of the good. Probably be another week or two before I have anything worth sending off for beta, but we'll see how it goes. Sometimes I get writing and it goes faster than I think. I will, time permitting, be working on that fic later this evening.

That's it from me for now. Love to all my f-list peeps! :*

Oh, my gosh, out of smut! That is an emergency! I shall try to write faster for you, m'dear. ;) I'll definitely check out the recordings, thank you for the link! And Neko Case is awesome. Her sound is so... dirty. Almost like a female Johnny Cash, is the best I can do, only it doesn't really do her justice. Your husband has good taste, in music and in wives. *g*

Now, where's that digital photo of your new tattoo that you promised? I've been eagerly awaiting it. *taps toe impatiently*
Fenriss: Peculiarfenriss on August 7th, 2006 04:06 am (UTC)
Oh, yeah! It's that "dirty" sound that the boy finds compelling, I think. He tries to get that kind of style in his own stuff. And, as much as he denies it, he is totally a squeeing fan boy for Johnny Cash!

Hee. 'Kay, I'm not posting it to my own LJ until tomorrow morning (most of my flist only reads from work, you see), but be cause you ask so nicely, you get to see it now.

Waddaya think? I wanted more color in it, and she sure gave me color. The whole rainbow, in fact! It's a bit more vivid than I expected...

Oh. Oh. Oh my. Darling, it is beautiful. I love the colors. And is that a dragon silhouetted in the flames? Gorgeous. Truly. Thank you for the sneak preview!

I went and downloaded all the songs from your husband's page that you linked me to and I'm listening to them right now. I like! I'm listening to "Burn" right now - very nice indeed. And, yes, as soon as I went over there I noticed the Johnny Cash cover of "A Boy Named Sue" in relation to the comment I had just made about Neko Case! Hee. I like his cover, by the way, actually better than the original. (I love Neko, but Johnny Cash, much as I've tried to get into him, and can appreciate what he does, just doesn't do it for me.)

By the way, I meant to ask you - is that icon you used above a picture of you? Not the peculiar sign (*g*) but the one before that. If not, what is that an icon of? (Sorry, I'm just always curious about people's icons.)

I don't think it's intended to be a dragon, but it sort of looks like that, doesn't it?

Yay! Thank you! He'll be so pleased.

(I love Neko, but Johnny Cash, much as I've tried to get into him, and can appreciate what he does, just doesn't do it for me.)

I totally understand. I like the idea of Johnny very much. I like the person he was, and I like the way he would cover songs by Depeche Mode and NIN and make them sound all meaningful and sincere in ways the originals didn't. But the truth is, I can't muster a whole lot of enthusiasm for his kind of music. I'll never be a fan like Eric is.

By the way, I meant to ask you - is that icon you used above a picture of you?

Yep! That's me, at Mardi Gras 2000. I think everyone should have an icon of him or herself dressed up like a pirate.

Our crowd does a lot of costumed events. Between the Ren Fests, our several-times-annually historical feasts, and the occasional costumed movie premier, we spend a lot of time dressed up :)

It does indeed. I love dragons (I love medieval fantasy type settings, and I was born in the year of the dragon in the Chinese Zodiac, so dragons have a special place in my heart). Oh, and I meant to ask you, how big is the tat? It's hard to get a sense of scale from the photo.

Yay! Thank you! He'll be so pleased.

I listened several times through yesterday while I was on my computer. I hope you won't take it amiss if I say that your husband has, er, a very sexy voice. Kind of reminds me of how Alan Rickman would sound if he sang (which is a compliment from me, I've always thought Alan Rickman has a really sexy voice) but with a touch of Cat Stevens thrown in. Except, of course, unique. *g* Anyway, I'm enjoying muchly.

Yep, I feel exactly the same way.

Awesome! So nice to put a face with the name & lovely words. Mwah.

Getting dressed up is fun, isn't it? I don't do it too often, but I do have a Ren Faire costume - me & the H used to go every year but it's been a couple of years now. Oh, and I knitted Jayne hats for me and my husband (see icon) for the Firefly premiere, but that wasn't really a full costume.

Huh. You know, I think they're pretty cool, too. I have a lot of fire in my astrological chart (hence the flames). I've been considering a sort of a black-work salamander, breathing fire or something. I need to work on the design. But she will certainly be dragon-like :)

Oh, and I meant to ask you, how big is the tat? It's hard to get a sense of scale from the photo.

Well, it's sort of in my mid-to-lower back… lemme get Eric to measure it… he says it's about 3 1/2 inches wide by about 5 inches high. Bigger than I would have estimated b feeling around back there.

Eeee! Darlin', I am not what you'd call the jealous type. I'm pleased as punch to hear you say that. He does have a sexy voice, doesn't he? *swoon* I have such a crush on him!

Awesome! So nice to put a face with the name & lovely words. Mwah.

You know, my default cartoony icon is probably more representative of how I actually look. But here, I'll attach yet another one I have of me… it's a sp00ky one E made, from a photo session we did a few years back.

(A little note: I was very much involved in the original fan-base for the Blair Witch Project, when it was little more than an indie film. Some of us where thinking of doing a book about the early fandom of the movie--which was a phenomenon in it's own right, really--and E took these pictures of me surrounded by creepy stickmen. The book never got made, alas.)

Also *smooch* :)

Oh, and I knitted Jayne hats for me and my husband (see icon) for the Firefly premiere, but that wasn't really a full costume.

Oh, cool! Jayne hats! I think knitting is fantastic. I can hardly do it myself (m step-mother keeps trying to teach me), but our friend Cynthia (cyntergomes) is practically a pro. She had her iPod cozy design featured in a crafting book.

People who can do stuff (like knit and write fic) are so cool. Sigh.

Oooh, design that made it into a book? That's awesome. I can barely knit - not very well at all. A friend of mine is awesome at it (I actually got her started knitting, but she quickly surpassed me and is now light years better than me) and she's the one that designed the pattern for the Jayne hats and helped me with the actual knitting of them. Still, it was very fun.

And I like that icon of you - very cool effect! And, I'll definitely be eager to hear about further tattoo designs - a dragon-like salamander sounds fantastic.

And, hee, I think you are very cool indeed. Now go work on your fic! If my humble self can be of any assistance at all, please do feel free to call upon me. :)
