Stolen from lemmealone...
The good: Seder last night was awesome, and I think everyone had a good time. (You'll have to check with rivers_bend, she was there, although the adorable gayboy I wanted her to meet didn't make it.)
The bad: OMG the DISHES. Piled to the SKY, I tell you.

The good: Woke up this morning well-rested and to several emails from my lovely LJ buddies.
The bad: Checked my cell phone messages and realized that I'd missed a call from one of you who needed my emotional support last night while I was doing the Seder thing. :(

The good: Discovered that my husband had done at least half the dishes last night, leaving only half-a-crapton for me to do this morning.
The bad: In washing the remaining dishes, I smashed to smithereens one of the pieces of my Seder plate set, which I love more than life itself. WOE. (Actually, my husband was very wise to leave that set for me to wash 'cause if he had broken it I would have been livid. As it is, I'm livid with myself. Ebay, here I come - please have replacement pieces for this set!)

The good: Dishes are now DONE and I'm going to spend the rest of my day LJ-ing, writing, and maybe iconing (need some Manning icons, stat). I should have a story to post in the next day or so, Hugh's response to my version of Stephen's version of Hugh and Stephen's meeting. If that makes any sense.
The bad: There is no bad. JOY!

Come talk to me, I'm boooored. :p

Seder plates = for special occasions only?

My parents have a beautiful tea service for special occasion use - white with deep purple roses, only to be used on special birthdays and funerals. They also have a special special set, beautiful pure white with a gold band, which suddenly made an appearance in 2000 after my grandmother's funeral. I had no idea they existed, let alone were more special than the roses set, I was feeling very grown-up (at age 27) that I was finally to be trusted with the roses set.

Do you make LJ icons? I now have my own LJ community for icons and textures, at 10000pixels. Textures are my latest thing, I'm hoping to get approval to post at icon_textures.

Hope that's un-bored you a little.... :)

Yep, a Seder plate is what you put the traditional Passover foods on. Seder is a passover meal - usually done on the first night of passover (the second night too, if you're traditional, which I'm not). So basically it gets used once a year on a holiday. My mom gave me this set, which is beautiful. The plate underneath is a beautiful blue sky pattern with white misty clouds on it - how perfect is that for me?! And the little plates that go on it have beautiful little watercolor sketches of the various foods that go in them - a hardboiled egg, horseradish, lettuce, etc. The one I smashed was the lamb that's intended for the bone. *sniff* And ebay is no help at all, dammit. Apparently at 32 I'm still not to be trusted with the special dishes. :(

I have made a few icons (like the one I'm using with this comment), but I'm definitely no expert. Very simple techniques only. I'll defintely check out your comm, though - I'm always wanting to learn more!

Hope that's un-bored you a little.... :)

Definitely! Thankees, hon! :D

LOVE your Fry-icon. Simple techniques are often the best, this is obviously an excellent source photo so no need to gild the lily :)

Hello there! I'm ducking into your icon community, as it looks interesting and I need some un-boreding as well. :D

Have fun!

Good to see you're writing/iconing again. And hurray for good seders! I did one with some family and it was... well, it was like seder with the family. X-P

The internet is a wonderful thing. I once found an exact replacement for a chipped plate that I would have never expected to find. I hope for the best.

Hey there cupcake buddy!

Yeah, I find that holidays celebrated with family are a WHOLE different thing than ones celebrated with friends. Not necessarily better or worse, just very very different. I think it's good to do some of each.

Ebay does not have my seder plate, which makes me weep bitter tears, but I'm going to try to keep looking for it, and my hubby is going to try to glue back together the sad little fragments. :( I'm trying to take it as a life lesson not to get too attached to material possessions... or something. Hmph.

I was just opening photoshop to do some iconing and was about to go looking for those email tutorials you sent me lo these many months ago - those are still my iconing bible. :D
Fluffyflufshepherd on April 21st, 2008 05:23 pm (UTC)
Hey cupcake buddy!

Yeah... One main difference I can think of between family and friends holidays are that you can remember all of your friends' names. That helps avoid certain embarrassment... *g*

:-( Sorry about the seder plate. Have tried looking anywhere else? Maybe if you google "seder sets" or something? I'm just like you. I get way too attached to material possessions. It's why I've never really thrown anything out.

I'm so pleased you're still using those old tutorials. If you ever need any more help, I'm always available. Just an e-mail away. :-)
Sky: [nfl] peyton eyesskyblue_reverie on April 22nd, 2008 02:51 am (UTC)
Heh, yeah, remembering names is one thing. Also, I find when celebrating with my friends that I actually like all of them. That's something I can't say about my family (my extended family, anyway).

Yeah, the Seder plate is a bummer. I tried googling it but had no luck, but I definitely need to do some more looking around.

Thank you for the offer of help! I definitely would love to learn more - I still need to figure out how to do textures and animations and stuff. Maybe sometime soon we could do another baking party/icon day? I've missed that!

This is probably the best of the four new icons I made yesterday, but it's still not very advanced or anything.
Fluffy: Coppersflufshepherd on April 22nd, 2008 06:48 am (UTC)
It's true. You're definitely more likely to actually like friends if you're inviting them to celebrate the hols. Not that I dislike any of my family... *whistles* Well, to be fair, none of my close family, anyway.

That new icon is not bad at all! The only thing I could think to do to add flair would be a light texture or something. I've been familiarizing myself with adobe a lot more lately, so I think I'd be a better teacher than I was when I first tried.

So, yeah. I'd love another baking/icon party day! I've missed it, too! Maybe even add writing to the list. I haven't written in my old BtVS WIP in so long that I'm afraid if I neglect it any more I'll completely drop it.
Sky: [nfl] brotherloveskyblue_reverie on April 22nd, 2008 04:22 pm (UTC)
Oooh, I love that icon! I'd love to know how to get that outline effect.

Yeah, I should definitely try to do some more writing soon too, so I don't lose whatever momentum I've picked up. Okay, so let's pick a day for our baking/icon/writing party! This weekend (the 26th-27th) I am free on Sunday but not Saturday, and next weekend (May 3rd-4th) I am free on Saturday but not Sunday. Does either of those days work for you?
Fluffy: Coppersflufshepherd on April 22nd, 2008 06:03 pm (UTC)
The May weekend would probably be better for me. From what I can remember, I'm free. If I find out I'm not between now and then, I'll tell you, but I doubt it'll be the case.

The outline effect on that specific icon was easy on that one because the background and subjects aren't from the same image. Since I put Sam and Gene onto the sky background, I easily made a new layer between them and used a white paintbrush to create the outline. Then, I added a drop shadow using that button on the layer palette that looks like a script 'f' in a black circle.

The harder part is putting Sam and Gene onto the sky background, which, if you want, I can tell you about later today. I'm just on my way out now.
Sky: [spooks] jools smokingskyblue_reverie on April 24th, 2008 01:04 am (UTC)
Awesome, let's do the May weekend! Just let me know if you find out it doesn't work.

Definitely I'd love to hear how you did the full guys-on-sky background (and doesn't that sound lovely :p) but if you don't have time no worries. Whenever you get a chance, or you can tell me about it during our baking weekend.

Now I just need to decide what I'm going to bake...
Fluffy: Sam Likes it Hereflufshepherd on April 24th, 2008 02:41 am (UTC)
Sounds good!

I want to take some time to catch up on my f-list reading (I haven't checked it in a few days and it's getting backed up), but after that I'll see if I can write a short tutorial in an e-mail explaining it.

If I don't get a chance tonight, I'll do it either later, or during out baking partay.

Hm. Gooood point. I could go for some more oatmeal raisin cookies. Do you think I can somehow substitute raisins with chocolate-covered ones? *ponders*

I've been excellent. Despite some troubles, I think I have achieved a relative stability in life. *nod* 'tis good. Do you read manga?

I'm so glad to hear things are going well for you!

Nope, don't really read manga. Why?
