We went to several fabulous restaurants (at one, poor ennui got a soda dumped all over her by the waiter), a few bookstores, a hobby shop, a craft faire, and a really fun, quirky, bohemian coffee shop where we sat in comfy armchairs, listened to live music from the other room, talked about fannish stuff, and drank coffee (her) and vanilla almond tea (me).
The caffeine was key, because we got very little sleep, spending most of the time holed up in my hotel room watching DVDs. She had never seen Buffy, so a little Joss-evangelism was definitely high on my priority list. I showed her several eps (if you're curious, we watched, in this order (but interspersed with other shows): Welcome to the Hellmouth, Surprise, Innocence, I Only Have Eyes For You, Becoming Part 1, Becoming Part 2, Once More With Feeling, Something Blue, Hush, and The Wish.) I also had her watch the pilot of Veronica Mars and the first two eps of Red Dwarf. She liked them all, yay!
She showed me about four or five MST3Ks, several eps of Futurama, and an ep of the Clerks animated series. I really liked all of them! At one point during one of the MST3Ks, she actually had to ask me if I was okay, as I was laughing so hard that I couldn't even take a breath.
We stayed up until about 3 every night, talking, giggling, and watching shows until we finally could not keep our eyes open any longer. So you can imagine the blind panic and confusion when one morning at dark o'clock the hotel fire alarm went off. That thing would wake the dead, which is probably a good thing, but I swear the thing knocked five years off of my life. Not the best way to be woken after only a few hours of sleep. I was still half-asleep, but with my instincts from living in the dorm during college, I immediately got into my shoes, coat, and grabbed my purse before heading out the door (expecting that we'd have to be evacuated whether or not it was a false alarm), but ennui was still in her pjs and bare feet, looking at me as if I were crazy when I asked if she wanted her jacket. We got out into the hallway and were sort of dithering about, because we didn't know where the stairs were and thought we probably shouldn't take the elevator just in case there really was a fire, and hadn't got any further in our thought process than this when an employee told us it was a false alarm and we could go back to bed. Yeah, right! By this time, of course, we were wide awake, the adrenaline finally having kicked in and gone buzzing through our veins. The scary thing was how few other people were out in the hallway. Either the hotel was really empty, or the other guests just decided that a little thing like a possible fire wasn't worth losing their beauty sleep over.
That aside, the entire trip could not have been more fun. Ennui drew me a gorgeous J/W fanart which I'll scan so that it can be posted, and we discussed our fics-in-progress, and altogether it was just the best time imaginable. And now I MISS HER SO MUCH! :( We are definitely going to get together again, as soon as possible.
Anyway, as you can imagine, all this did not leave too much time for emailing or LJ stuff. So if I owe you an email, I'm very sorry, and please be patient with me. I promise I'll get to it as soon as I can - I'm going to be catching up slowly this week. (msliz4857, I really will reply soon, and I'm so sorry for the delay.)
Now, back to real life. *sniff*
