I miss ennui!
My trip to TX to visit ennui_blue_lite was absolutely wonderful, and I'm just sad that it was over so quickly.

We went to several fabulous restaurants (at one, poor ennui got a soda dumped all over her by the waiter), a few bookstores, a hobby shop, a craft faire, and a really fun, quirky, bohemian coffee shop where we sat in comfy armchairs, listened to live music from the other room, talked about fannish stuff, and drank coffee (her) and vanilla almond tea (me).

The caffeine was key, because we got very little sleep, spending most of the time holed up in my hotel room watching DVDs. She had never seen Buffy, so a little Joss-evangelism was definitely high on my priority list. I showed her several eps (if you're curious, we watched, in this order (but interspersed with other shows): Welcome to the Hellmouth, Surprise, Innocence, I Only Have Eyes For You, Becoming Part 1, Becoming Part 2, Once More With Feeling, Something Blue, Hush, and The Wish.) I also had her watch the pilot of Veronica Mars and the first two eps of Red Dwarf. She liked them all, yay!

She showed me about four or five MST3Ks, several eps of Futurama, and an ep of the Clerks animated series. I really liked all of them! At one point during one of the MST3Ks, she actually had to ask me if I was okay, as I was laughing so hard that I couldn't even take a breath.

We stayed up until about 3 every night, talking, giggling, and watching shows until we finally could not keep our eyes open any longer. So you can imagine the blind panic and confusion when one morning at dark o'clock the hotel fire alarm went off. That thing would wake the dead, which is probably a good thing, but I swear the thing knocked five years off of my life. Not the best way to be woken after only a few hours of sleep. I was still half-asleep, but with my instincts from living in the dorm during college, I immediately got into my shoes, coat, and grabbed my purse before heading out the door (expecting that we'd have to be evacuated whether or not it was a false alarm), but ennui was still in her pjs and bare feet, looking at me as if I were crazy when I asked if she wanted her jacket. We got out into the hallway and were sort of dithering about, because we didn't know where the stairs were and thought we probably shouldn't take the elevator just in case there really was a fire, and hadn't got any further in our thought process than this when an employee told us it was a false alarm and we could go back to bed. Yeah, right! By this time, of course, we were wide awake, the adrenaline finally having kicked in and gone buzzing through our veins. The scary thing was how few other people were out in the hallway. Either the hotel was really empty, or the other guests just decided that a little thing like a possible fire wasn't worth losing their beauty sleep over.

That aside, the entire trip could not have been more fun. Ennui drew me a gorgeous J/W fanart which I'll scan so that it can be posted, and we discussed our fics-in-progress, and altogether it was just the best time imaginable. And now I MISS HER SO MUCH! :( We are definitely going to get together again, as soon as possible.

Anyway, as you can imagine, all this did not leave too much time for emailing or LJ stuff. So if I owe you an email, I'm very sorry, and please be patient with me. I promise I'll get to it as soon as I can - I'm going to be catching up slowly this week. (msliz4857, I really will reply soon, and I'm so sorry for the delay.)

Now, back to real life. *sniff*

Hello babe! I'm so glad that you had a fun time! MWAH! Except for the fire alarm, which freaked me out horribly!
I had a blast being indoctrined into the Buffy-verse, which was so cool, and had the best characters. I've developed a bit of Spike love, and a bit of Giles love, but not Spike/Giles love, which would be wierd. Anyway, my fav episode of the ones we watched would have to be a toss up between "Something Blue" and "Hush".

Along with forgetting about the fire alarm, I also forgot to write about the coke thing! I forget everytihng that's important when I go to write stuff down. :Rolls eyes at self:

Yay for you liking the fanart! Yay!

MWAH! Hi, beautiful. I'm so glad you liked the Buffy-verse, but please don't feel obligated to go out and jump into the fandom. I don't want you leaving the Fry/Laurie fandoms! So just leave it on the back burner and when you are feeling like you want something new, think about it then. No rush! I had several buffy icons, including some with spike and one or two with giles, but I took them down in favor of more fry/laurie-ish ones. If you want some, though, let me know, since you have plenty of slots. This one I'm posting with is my one remaining buffy icon.

Hee, you didn't forget the important stuff! The important stuff was us hanging out and having a blast. The fire alarm and coke were just funny anecdotes.

Yay for gorgeous fanart! Yay! :D

I wish I had been there
Oh my gawd! MST3K and Buffy?!?!?! Who are you people and when can I come over and watch Buffy with you? Actually, I made my partner watch every single Buffy from start to finish (except not the laim feature film with father of 24). We did nothing else in the evening for weeks. It's like that with Buffy. One becomes sired, as it were, and then one sires more fans. Catherine Lewis sired me after my brother had been unsuccessful at it for many years. I have sired several others.

My brother did sire me onto MST3K, but I only indulge with him. I want to get my guy on Angel, but he refuses to get addicted to another show. Damn it!

Take care,
Heather Flanagan

Re: I wish I had been there
Haha - 'father of 24'! Yes, the movie was la-ame. Siring is a good analogy! What is your strategy for siring others? Which eps do you start with, and how much explaining do you do?

I have seen a few MST3Ks before on TV, but they're not as funny when you watch them alone, during the day. Really, they're best with at least one friend, at night, when you're both totally sleep deprived and giddy as a result.

Glad to meet a fellow fan!
